It’s a difficult, even almost impossible feat to stand out in country music.  The genre has stretched and intertwined with many influences and other genres, the umbrella of country music virtually covers the entire musical spectrum.  To uncover a new sound or style to shine brighter than the thousands of other artist trying to do the same thing seems an unattainable task.

Drew Parker, in just a few short years, has achieved more in Nashville as a country artist than most do in a lifetime.  He signed a publishing deal two years after moving to Music City, has penned tunes for Luke Combs and Jake Owen, and is on tour currently with Cody Johnson.

“While You’re Gone” is a song that every singer needs in his catalogue, it’s a somber ballad about a relationship that could have been but never was, influenced by regret but also with bitterness towards the love that did him wrong.

The track is solid, and Parker’s vocals are undeniably strong, capturing the mood of the melody.  The song, itself, falls short of stepping into new songwriting territory.  We, the listeners, have been down this road before with just about every male artist in the genre.

Drew has put out some heavy rockers and while “While You’re Gone” holds its own among those in his catalogue, it falls short of being anything more than the latest broken heart ballad by a male vocal powerhouse.
