                                                                "When It Comes to You"

Rusty VanSickle is most widely recognized as the touring guitarist for John Michael Montgomery, while multi-instrumentalist Megan Mullins Owen can most often be seen tearing it up alongside the legendary Alabama every time that they hit the stage.

However, when these two talented musicians/vocalists come together on VanSickle’s brand-new single “When It Comes to You” it’s pure magic as they both power pack the song with their obviously stellar musicianship and with vocals in true duet form that perfectly capture the falling in love with each more and more each day emotion that the lyrics call for.

Released as a 5^th Friday bonus as part of CCB Nashville’s #newmusicfriday initiative, VanSickle opens the slower paced song by giving us an immediate introduction to what type of guy he usually is when it comes to love by singing on the first line, “I’ve always been the kind of guy to make the first move,” but he then quickly advances the song to possibly signal that maybe the couple has been together for a minute and are ready to take the next steps as he begins to compliment her as being the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, an angel with a hidden halo and wings, etc.

Likewise, Mullins Owen utilizes the second verse to shower praises upon him when she compliments his eyes and smile, which she then confesses both consume her and make her heartbeat glow.

But it’s when they bring their voices together in the chorus that the true magic of the lyric begins to shine as they not only harmonize perfectly together, but sing us through a list like fashion of what they will be for each other as they step into their next chapter:

“I’ll be the rock you can always lean on

The melody when you’re looking for a love song

The right turn when what’s left feels all wrong

I’ll be your beach when you’re looking for some sunshine

A little buzz like you’re sipping on some red wine

There ain’t nothing I won’t do, when it comes to you.” 

As country music continues to evolve and change in its style and approach, a great love song will always rise to the top and connect with the majority of country music listeners. By leaning into a style that sounds plucked out of the 2000’s era, VanSickle and Mullins Owen find a strong balance within their approach that allows their voices and musicianship to stand in the spotlights, but even more so to elevate the lyrics to the forefront and capture the listeners ear while making them fall in love with their better half all over again.
