TOMMY TOWNSEND
"Southern Man"
BFD/Audium Nashville
With successful singles including “Drinkin’”, “The Eye”, and “Plug The Jukebox Back In” under his belt, BFD/Audium Nashville artist Tommy Townsend has released the most illustrious, unique, and remarkable track to date.
“Southern Man”, honoring Tommy’s Georgia roots, is now available on all streaming services.
Over 20 years ago, Townsend entered the studio with legendary icons Waylon Jennings and Jerry “Jigger” Bridges and recorded “Southern Man”. Two decades later, the song is finally out and open to everyone, and promises to be a fan favorite amongst Tommy’s fans.
Jennings’ trademark vocals and musical ingenuity are prevalent on the track, providing the perfect background alignment for the upbeat tune. The song was written by J. Fred Knobloch and Walter Carter, and was produced by Jennings and Bridges, who also produced the other nine tracks on Townsend’s record.
Fans can catch Tommy on the road this spring on a few select dates, while “Southern Man” continues to gain momentum. Reflecting on the long-awaited (and overdue) release of the song as well as commemorating the 20th anniversary of Waylon’s passing, he said:
“About a week before Waylon passed away, I had called him, and he and Jessi (Colter) had gone to dinner…a week later I saw his picture on TV and thought Waylon must be comin’ to town, but he had passed away…I hope Waylon’s proud of this.”
“Southern Man” should make Waylon, Tommy, and the country music industry proud.
