With his last single “Somewhere Cool With You,” Adam Doleac made a very strong impact at country radio and continued to solidify his name as an artist to watch in 2022. However, with the release of “Drinkin’ it Wrong,” Doleac leaps miles past his current artist to watch tag to become something so much more.

The start and stop of the simple, yet slick guitar riff over the first few seconds of the song instantly perks your ears and will make you stop flipping the radio dial to listen more intently, before an ultra-catchy melody pulls you into the song and keeps your toes tapping.

Lyrically, Doleac encourages us to find a great night out that’s full of letting loose and leaving your worries behind while holding a cold one in your hand. However, he also cautions us to make sure you’re doing it right as he instructs on the lines that lead straight into the chorus:

“It ain’t complicated, all you gotta do

Is get out of your own way

And let the good time come to you.”

From these lines, the chorus then challenges you to let go of the stuff that’s bugging you and be in this moment as he boldly sings:

“If you got work on your mind

If your worries ain’t gone

If it ain’t hitting you right

Well, you’re drinkin' it wrong.”

There’s an incredible switch in the melody as the bridge strikes that sees the guitars shredding you into the bouncy feel of the chorus, where Doleac then hits you with yet another intricate switch within the melody before enticing you with a very strong audience participation moment as the song rolls to a close.

There’s no doubt that Adam Doleac is on a hot streak right now, but “Drinkin’ It Wrong” is the song that will elevate his status and bring him to the forefront of the new crop of country artists who are no longer labeled as one to watch, but rather earn the label of one that has arrived!
