TCM Song Review:  Chris Young's "Rescue Me"

Music Video:  Chris Young & Kane Brown "Famous Friends"

With has eighth studio album Famous Friends releasing in just one month (August 6, 2021), multi-platinum, RCA Records Nashville recording artist Chris Young decided to bring it home to Tennessee when it came time for filming a live performance for his upcoming music video for his next single “At The End Of A Bar” (a duet with Mitchell Tenpenny who was also on hand) - and what better place to do it then right on Lower Broadway in the thick of all things Nashville.

But Chris didn’t stop with just giving his hometown a chance to be a part of his new music video; he also performed some of his biggest hits during a free 45-minute concert that took place after the video shoot as a way of saying thank you to his fans.

With the crowd already buzzing from the hour-long video shoot that had just occurred, when Young launched into his set with “Hangin’ On” everyone instantly jumped along with the melody and shouted out the lyrics with their arms raised in the air.

“I’m Gonna throw it all the way back to my very first number one!” stated Chris as he turned Lower Broadway into a slow dance floor with “Gettin’ You Home,” which he quickly followed with “Lonely Eyes.”

“Man, I missed the hell out of this,” Young said with a huge smile on his face about performing in front of a live audience before jumping into “Losing Sleep” – the second of his #1 songs played during the set.

As he and his guitar tech tried to figure out which guitar Chris needed next, Young laughed as he turned to the audience and confessed, ““We don’t really have a setlist tonight so we’re just gonna play whatever we want to if that’s alright with you?” before he stood illuminated by a single stage light and gave the audience a solo acoustic version of “Tomorrow.”

“Where are all my single people at?” asked Young, who was met with an ovation from the single folks in the crowd. “Well, this song is not for you! But where are my people in love at?” Young then asked and was met again with a rousing cheer - this time from those in love. “Well, this song is definitely for you!” he said as he played “Who I Am With You.”

As the crowd got into the groove of “I Can Take It From There,” they danced along with it, but as Young rolled into the second verse singing, “I'm gonna put an old record on…Conway Twitty, yeah girl, I'd love to lay you down,” he quickly stopped the band and addressed the crowd and their reaction to the Twitty namecheck.

“We’re gonna have to do better than that Lower Broadway!” he instructed. “Y’all know who Conway Twitty is don’t ya?” he asked as the crowd cheered. “Alright that’s good! Then we’re gonna restart this verse and you better be loud when I say his name this time around. Are you ready?”

This time the crowd was more than ready as an eruption came from them that was so loud it nearly drowned out the band.

Young stayed on a traditional bent, grabbing his acoustic guitar to offer an incredible solo version of Keith Whitley’s “When You Say Nothing At All,” which after, when his band rejoined him on stage, they then launched into the rousing rocker “Aw Naw.”

“This last one is gonna be a hell of a lot of fun to sing with you guys since you helped take it all the way to number one this week!” Chris exclaimed as he closed out his set with “Famous Friends.”
