JAMIE O'NEAL

Wednesday May 5, 2021

@ Music City Bar & Grill in Nashville, TN

The brand-new Nashville Country Network is getting ready to launch to streaming services everywhere, and included as part of their programming is the Cash Creek Club – a music showcase hosted by the Cash Creek Band and featuring some of Nashville’s hottest up and coming acts and the legendary artists the group is proud to call friend.

Taped at Music City Bar & Grill in the shadow of the Grand Ole Opry, the band welcomed Grammy nominated country star Jamie O’ Neal to the stage.

Backed by the Cash Creek Band, with longtime band member Megan Mullins joining on background vocals, O’Neil launched into her 5-song set with her 2004 Top 20, “Trying To Find Atlantis,” and she instantly had the crowd clapping and bopping along with her.

“My little girl…well she’s not so little anymore,” began O’Neal.” “She’s about to turn 18 years old. But when I was pregnant with her, I couldn’t believe that I was going to be a mom and I wrote this song,” she finished as she launched into her touching Top 5 smash, “Somebody’s Hero.”

“This next song is from my Sometimes album that came out back in October,” O’Neil started as she confessed with shrugged shoulders, “it’s all about drinking and how alcohol can help you through anything life throws at you,” as she played the ultra-catchy, groove laden “Spin the Bottle.”

“This next song was inspired by Steven King,” O’Neil explained before sharing the full story of how an autographed copy of his Dolores Claiborne book she received in the mail after performing in his hometown of Bangor, Maine gave her the idea for it.

“Who would’ve thought that he would’ve inspired country song? But this is my first ever #1 charting song,” O’Neil finished as she belted out “There Is No Arizona,” before closing with another of her #1 songs, “When I Think About Angels” - which included a rousing crowd sing-along during its final chorus.

There’s an old saying that you hear a lot here in Music City: “Only in Nashville!”

This was absolutely one of those moments.

Small bar – Big star!

It’s always amazing when something like this occurs, but it becomes so much more fun when you see how the moment unexpectedly affects people who are standing right in front of you. There was a group that walked in – they were obviously tourists - and the girl with the group instantly began to sing “When I Think About Angels” while standing at the bar ordering her drink and thinking nothing of it. But then she looked at the stage and realized that the one performing the song was the one who she hears on the radio singing it all the time and her excitement reached a level where she started jumping around with unbridled enthusiasm <- I love getting to see this happen!
