Priscilla Block made a huge impact with “Just About Over You” that instantly put her on the country music map. But with all eyes on her since then, it became her upbeat personality and transparently raw honesty that’s kept the spotlight shining so brightly on her – look no further than her song “Peaked In High School” for a great example of this!

Choosing a proper radio follow-up to one of the biggest songs of 2021 was never going to be an easy task, but the ultra-catchy “My Bar” seems to be an amazingly perfect choice.

With her already strong showings on songs such as “Wish You Were The Whiskey,” and the already mentioned “Just About Over You,” Block allowed us to know that she likes the dive bar scene as both songs do take place at a bar. So, it makes perfect sense then that she has a favorite watering hole.

We all have a home bar - the place where all your friends hang out and where they know your drink - and Block elevates this comforting aspect throughout the opening verse by singing that she’s at hers every Wednesday night, loves the band, sits in the same spot, they know her by name and what her go to drink is.

However, as much as that first part is expected with a song like this, there comes a shift as we lead into the chorus which changes the entire dynamic of the song when Block sings the lines, “Out the corner of my eye I see, the door guy checking your ID.”

Suddenly, though it’s never officially said that the two (Block and person walking in) broke up, this then masterfully indicates that they have, and it sails into kiss-off territory as she sings us through the chorus:

“Don’t come walking in like you own it, you own it

I hate to break it to you, you don’t, yeah you don’t

You think you’re such a star, but here’s the funny part

No one even knows who you are, this is my bar!”

This sentiment continues as the song presses on, especially as it strides into the bridge where Block tells the person in question to not even buy that round that they’re fixin’ to, and to just leave her bar and go back to their side of town.

Priscilla Block is quickly becoming one of country music’s hottest new female acts, and while catchy songs such as “My Bar” clearly have melodies that are designed to pull you into them, it’s Block’s ability to weave her every woman personality into the lyrics that truly makes her stand out as she wraps her incredible vocals in the blanket of the spotlight and keeps you invested with the relatability factor that makes you feel like you’re hanging out with a longtime friend with every line she sings.
