With influences that run the traditional country music gamut - including Freddy Fender, Johnny Rodriguez, and King George - Texas country artist Robert Ray has been bending his influences into a modern twisted spin on his traditional sound, and he’s catching the attention of Texas radio with each subsequent release.

His latest song, “Come Home to You,” is the type of mid-tempo love song that easily resonates with the blue-collar worker who would rather be at home with his girl than punching the clock and watching the time slowly ticking by.

The intended listener is quickly hooked as Ray connects with them through the opening lines of the song; “Just clocked in 10 minutes late, boss man is on my case, don’t care what he has to say, he never liked me anyways.”

Once hooked, as all good songs do, Ray flips the lyric to set the emotional tone as he takes you to the place that he’d rather be when he sings, “been thinking about you since I first walked in, kissing your lips, touching your skin.”

He continues thinking out loud of all the good stuff that’s waiting at home for him as the song presses forward – the sound of her voice whispering I love you, her smiling face, etc.

Robert Ray knows all the correct ways to utilize his crisp voice so that it wraps the perfect punch of the missing you feeling into these lyrics that they so desperately call for. But, as the lyric idea suggests, “Come Home to You” also acts a perfect song for a slow dance on a Saturday night at your favorite honky-tonk with your best girl.

I’m always up for a great love song that can hit me just right, and this one certainly does!
