With his crafty storytelling and built for honky-tonk instrumentation on his last single “Heart That’s Gonna Break,” Buck Ford continued to display his 90’s influenced country style while delivering the defining characteristics and signature feels that we’ve been hearing from him throughout 2021.

He now returns to radio with his newest song, “I Know Them Blues.”

Sticking with what he does best, there’s a decisively 90’s country feel to what will surely become a dancehall favorite, but its Ford’s incredible vocal ability that wraps around the lyric to deliver the heartache punch that “I Know Them Blues” truly calls for.

Using nostalgic, comparative lyrics throughout the verses, which are designed to later balance how deeply seeded the blues are that he’s feeling after he was done wrong by an ex, Ford namechecks several different celebrities and musicians:

“Like Muddy Waters knew a guitar and Elvis knew how to drive them girls wild.”

“Just like Earnhardt knew a fast car and Ms. Monroe knew just how to smile.”

“Like Jaggar and the stones know how to rock ‘em.”

As an extra added touch, he also showcases his country roots when he sings the crafty comparative line, “Like a catfish knows the river bottom.”

All of this, however, is simply designed to pull you into the chorus where he reveals that he’s been done wrong, and just like all those different mentions throughout the verses, he now knows her lying eyes, her bad goodbye, and of course, the blues!

He eventually invites you straight into his current scene toward the end of the song when you hop up on the barstool next to him and join him in the bar through another run of strong comparative lines that sing of how the bartender knows his name, the neon lights and a sad song on the jukebox numbs his pain, etc.

Done me wrong, heartbreak songs have absolutely been done in country music since the beginnings of the genre. However, because of tapping into that nostalgic vibe lyrically, and combining that with a throwback feel, Buck Ford has given us his third song in a row that will easily ignite the Friday night dancehall floors.
