Since releasing her debut single, “Rerun,” Jillian Cardarelli has been making an impact on the country music scene and paving her own unique path through her evolving style that’s skillfully walked the line of modern pop country with just enough traces of classic country ideals that each song keeps her strong vocals in the forefront.

With her newest music, “If You Had a Heart” and now “Dropped,” both which are previews of her forthcoming 2022 EP, we see Cardarelli continuing to evolve her signature country sound, but also take some additional risks and chances within it; especially on “Dropped.”

Written by Kassi Ashton, Johnny Dibb, and Emily Landis, “Dropped” allows Cardarelli to explore new territory as it transports you to a dusty, underground jazz hall with its overall sound and vibe, which allows Jillian to slide into a sultry side and elevate the sassiness as she takes us through the moving on and not going back to you lyric.

“Too bad you want me,” she begins, as she then reveals that she’s moved on and isn’t interested in taking him back, singing cutthroat lines that showcase the confidence she’s gained by letting go of the relationship once and for all.

“I’m not gonna try to put back together something, something I dropped.”

“Too bad you’re lonely, too bad I’m done.”

“Your bed is colder, you can’t deny, it messes up your head to see me with another guy.”

Comparative lyrics pull us through the chorus as she sings of him being like a bad habit that she’s dropped, a faded Friday night that she’s long since forgotten, etc.

This is a true kiss-off song by definition and it includes a healthy dose of unapologetic confidence with Cardarelli even stating about herself in the second verse that she was the best he ever had. Most importantly, though, this song reveals an intriguing new layer to who Jillian Cardarelli is as an artist and which direction her forthcoming EP may be heading.
