The latest release from Matt Stell, “Boyfriend Season”, doesn’t break new ground with its subject matter.  But contrarily, the intimate details and delivery of the tune make it another example of why many in the industry are so high on this rising singer-songwriter.

“Boyfriend Season”, at its core, is a breakup song.  Certainly, droves of tracks have been released this year about a lost love, but there is an interesting spin put on this one that separates it from the rest.

The song is about hiding the truth from others (and yourself) following a breakup – how things ended on his terms.  He is telling himself and those around him that being single is what is best for him and what is meant to be…while internally, he is dying with heartache at the thought of not having the one whom he loves.

“Tell ’em everything happens for a reason

So you don’t have to own this broken heart

Mix another white lie with another red wine

Tell yourself every time you try to close your eyes”

Released on October 8th, “Boyfriend Season” follows the successful singles “That Ain’t Me No More” and “Better Than That”.  The Arkansas native put himself on the country music map with the number one track “Prayed For You”, and followed up by his platinum release “Everywhere But On”.

Fans of Stell can catch him on the road this fall, as well as what promises to be a busy 2022 for him, supporting the continuing releases of hit singles.
