GREYLAN JAMES - Young Man- Big Machine Label Group

Ever since his appearance on NBC’s “The Voice” in 2013, singer-songwriter Greylan James has established himself as a gifted young talent on the country music scene.  Having penned tunes for the likes of Kenny Chesney, Chris Young, and Chris Janson, he garnered and earned the reputation as a gifted songwriter from the onset of his career; but his emergence as a singer and recording artist continues with the release of his latest single, “Young Man”.

Following his last single / first on Big Machine Label Group, “Undermine”, “Young Man” is a relatable tale of a young man finding wisdom and knowledge through the experiences of those that came before him.  Having co-written the tune with Jacob Davis and Josh Miller, Greylan croons his way through sentimental, thought-provoking lyrics with a stripped-down, acoustically driven melody that speaks through honesty, vulnerability, and integrity.

“If it ain’t good for your soul

Tell it where to go man

Make crazy friends, fall in crazy love

‘Cause that’s the stuff that keeps you young, man”

The slow, acoustic-guitar intro sets the mood of a storytelling throwback country tune, which we, fans of the genre have always loved and have longed for more of in recent years.

The beat increases with the second verse, slowly building the momentum and emotional impact throughout and climaxing through the chorus.  With all the elements of a solid country music release, this tune hits in all the right spots.

An extremely relatable track that can speak to any of its listeners regardless of age or situation, “Young Man” was written as a tribute to someone very special to Greylan.

“I always wanted to write a song that honored my grandfather”, James shared.  “He was the one that not only got me started in music but taught me so many things”.

And while his recording artist career is taking off, his songwriting stardom is only getting bigger and brighter, as he recently tallied his first No. 1 song with the hit single, “Next Thing You Know”, recorded by Jordan Davis, which is nominated for Song Of The Year at this year’s CMA Awards.

Beginning October 12 in Fargo, ND, Greylan will be on the road with Cole Swindell on his TWELVE TOUR.  The run will conclude an incredibly busy and career-changing 2023 for James, who was on the road with Old Dominion throughout the summer, playing amphitheaters and arenas across the country.
