CALLIE MCCULLOUGH - What If I Don't - Independent Release

It’s been since the throwback spirit of “Three Quarter Time” in 2021 that we got a new song from Canadian country music starlet Callie McCullough…but the wait is finally over!

She’s just opened her next chapter with her brand-new single, “What If I Don’t.”

The song, co-written by Callie and Scotty Kipfer, holds tightly to her neo-traditional style, sliding toward a roots driven Americana branding with just enough bluegrass flare to keep you clapping along as she playfully shrugs her shoulders at the expectations of which direction the outsiders looking in at her life say that she should be heading.

“What if I don’t wanna get married? What if I love being on my own?” McCullough asks over an addictively catchy melody, instantly setting a sassy tone while strategically keeping a bless your heart innocence wrapped within her vocal delivery that makes her retaliating questions pop that much stronger.

Continuing to stand toe to toe with all the questions she’s faced with, she unapologetically offers her completely different perspective to them throughout the song, quieting their annoying noise to a hush when she asks in response with a sly wink:

“What if I don’t wanna have babies?”

“What if I don’t care about money?”

“What if I like to chase rainbows?”

McCullough’s vocals in each of the verses carry a raw honesty in their approach that the melody perfectly accompanies without ever overpowering. However, it’s the carefreeness in her looking forward to getting older that wraps the bow around this knockout win, completely silencing the outsiders when she stamps the final mark on embodying the idea of navigating your life as you see fit rather than succumbing to the pressures of the typical; “What if I don’t mind getting older? What if I think it’s gonna be fun?”

As Callie McCullough always does, “What If I Don’t” immediately intrigues the listener with a unique perspective, catchy melody, and a style that the lovers of the genre are clamoring for as she pulls in so much influence from classic country that it makes her stand out with a sound that feels lifted straight from an old record that you have up on your shelf.

With the promise of new music already being in the works, McCullough (a TCM Class of 2022 artist) has just heightened an incredible buzz for things still to come!
