Caitlynne Curtis has struck the mainstream spotlight with guest turns on Struggle Jennings “God We Need You” and “Fell Outta Love,” as well as with her current tour position on Jelly Roll’s high-profile ‘Backroad Baptism Tour.’ However, over the past few years she’s been strongly carving out her unique niche amongst the modern country music scene with very well-praised efforts that include her debut album Sad Girl Energy and her 2023 Self-Love EP.

Always one to continually challenge herself to grow, Curtis recently wowed listeners with her heartfelt Father’s Day letter “Where You Left Off,” and she now returns to transparently share a piece of her own story while encouraging you to push through the fires of your trials and tribulations on “Been Through Hell.”

The upbeat, toe-tapping melody pulls from an addictively western kissed vibe to encompass the overwhelming feeling of knowing that you’ve made it through and have been saved as she first paints the picture of the flames being high and burning blue while clouding her vision with smoke.

However, where the masterful lyrics shine so brightly is in the fact that as she walks through her hell she never loses sight of her faith, resulting in the strong punch of the chorus where she sings of never breaking or bending and keeping her soul intact, finding her redemption when she’s finally free of what held her so captive as she enthusiastically praises, “Jesus broke me out, now I’m free again!”

Continuing to shower His praises, the second verse takes us deeper into the specific moments when she knew that He stepped in to save her, such as when she could hear His encouraging voice telling her not to break or when she was able to soak in the angel choir singing in victory with her.

The gospel additives laced through the background of the chorus add the perfect Sunday morning element, while the traditional instrumentation through the bridge adds a nod to country music’s rich past; both expertly working to elevate the sonic grip on the listener.

“Been Through Hell” walks the line of country music’s ideals with redeeming praise as you can’t help but lift your arms and sing along with eyes closed as your toes insanely tap along with the irresistible beat as your hips shake side to side in perfect tune with the melody.

Caitlynne Curtis continues to be a consistent, proven force to be reckon with as she cleverly uses her story to boldly teach us the importance of leaning on Jesus in our troubled times, essentially laying it all at His hands and feet, in order to find the necessary strength to stay strong physically, mentally, and in your faith through moments of darkness until you discover the light on the other side of them.
