To break into the Texas/Red Dirt scene you need to have great songs and a memorable live performance that keeps people talking. This is the exact combination that the Kyle Killgore Band brings to the scene.

Since the release of their debut album Jackson in 2018, the Kyle Killgore Band has played over 500 shows, secured a Top 100 on the Texas Charts with their debut radio single “Livin’ on the Run,” and now returns with their brand-new single “Passenger Seat.”

Missing the one’s that you love while you’re out on the road chasing a dream is certainly not a new topic in country music, but when it comes from that very vulnerable place and it’s something that you’ve personally lived, then there’s an unmistakable honesty that helps carry the song.

Although written by Kyle’s younger brother Keylan (a professional baseball player), “Passenger Seat” is certainly one that Kyle can relate to having spent the past 2 ½ years on the road performing while being forced to leave his wife and family at home to do it.

“This past year’s been crazy girl,” begins the song as Killgore then digs into the tough internal struggle of having to leave with lines such as, “every time I close the door, it’s like I’m closing off the best side of me” and “six-string riding next to me, pretending this old highway ain’t so lonely without you baby.”

But it’s in the chorus where the emotions charge into overdrive You can nearly feel the pain as he sings “everything inside of me is screaming not to leave your side again,” and hear the passion in his voice with, “Girl, I’ve always needed you,” before driving to the hook of the song where he confesses, “These damn dreams don’t mean a thing with an empty passenger seat.”

Although this song is written about having a profession that involves a lot of time out on the road, anyone who works long hours and is away from their loved ones can easily relate to this lyric. Once you’re pulled in, though, it’s Kyle Killgore’s raw sincerity and emotionally charged delivery of each line of the song that hooks into your heartstrings and keeps you invested.
