Since she appeared on season 2 of The Voice, country music powerhouse Raelynn has made her mark on country music. “God Made Girls” and “Love Triangle” propelled her to the top 40 on the Mediabase Country Airplay charts, while songs such as “For A Boy” and “Queens Don’t” quickly became fan favorites.

However, her newest single “Small Town Prayer” might be her most poignant to date and best showcase who she is as an all-around artist today; some 11 years after we first met her through our television screens.

Written with Drew Kennedy and Ben Stennis, Raelynn pulls us through the plethora of prayers that are offered up when someone is facing tough times of any nature:  the crop needs rain, truck needs tires, mom is waiting for a soldier son to return home, a hometown team is in the 4th quarter and one play away from going to state, or a grandma dealing with Alzheimer’s who remembers her granddaughters name for the first time in months.

But the entire purpose of this song doesn’t sit on what we pray about, but rather rests on the fact that no prayer is too small for God to handle as she sings in the chorus:

“It all sounds simple coming off our lips

‘Cause we’re so little and He’s so big

Can’t find it in the bible, but Lord I swear

Nothing hits heaven like a small-town prayer”

Though this song does weave its way into a current country sound through some of its production, it more so utilizes the power of Raelynn’s incredible vocals to deliver the message, while allowing classic country instrumentation to pull you into the depth of the lyrics.

Like any prayer should be doing, this song - which plays out like one - leaves you with an amazing amount of hope in that it defines the fact you are always being heard in your toughest moments and nothing that you pray about is insignificant to God.
