SOPHIA SCOTT
"In Her Shoes"
Empire Music Nashville
When one describes a song of theirs as “that moment you realize you’re turning into your parents”, it is an instant statement of enticement for music fans.
EMPIRE Nashville’s Sophia Scott has released her new tune, “In Her Shoes,” which is available on all streaming platforms now.
The southern starlet has made a name for herself in Nashville and beyond over the past couple of years, but has expanded her notoriety to the wider country music audience with her single “Getting Over You” with Zack Dyer. Now, Sophia is inviting her listeners into a world of nostalgia, appreciation, and realization of the ins and outs of life with a cleverly crafted and beautifully delivered song about a mother through her daughter’s eyes.
Scott’s vocals are beautifully sung with the effortless vibrancy necessary to push the emotional element of this song over the top. Lyrically, this is a poem about a mother from a daughter. The storytelling nature puts the listener in the heart and mind of the narrator of the tune, while the melody and musical arrangement are perfect compliments to the elegiac words orchestrated by a gifted vocalist.
“Maybe too strong for her own good
Sure she saw a little more than she should
She don’t look back
When she leaves a room
Damn if that ain’t me too
Am I my mother
Or am I just walking in in her shoes”
While the song is a tribute to her mother and who she is and what she has done, the hook is Sophia’s realization of the traits she has and the relatability she has to her mother at this point in her life. It’s a thought-provoking song, all the while being a beautiful song to which to listen.
“In Her Shoes” is the second release of the year for Sophia, following “Her” and “If I Hadn’t Been Drunk”. She released her debut EP, ‘One Of These Days’, in June 2022, which featured the singles “More Me, “One Of These Days”, and “Sweetheart. Described as the queen of “Grunty” (the perfect mix of grunge and country), Sophia continues to make a name for herself as a talented young songstress on the rise.
