For over a decade now, Austin English has been carving out a tremendous name for himself in the Texas Country music scene with a quarter-million streams of his songs, as well as earning a Top 30 and Top 40 on the Texas charts.

However, with the release of his latest single “In The Mix,” English takes the next big career step by targeting national country radio for the first time.

Simply put, this is a song about a girl that got away…but it’s a line that paints the picture of a pasture party in the first verse that sets everything motion and leads us to the spark that triggers the memory; “We still roll out to that empty field that the cops ain’t found and they never will.”

We slide into the chorus on the back of the line, “still one thing’s missing if I want to get it just right,” and from there on, the girl that he’s missing (aka the one that got away) takes center stage as he describes her and the feelings he gets whenever she’s around; “Cause when you’re mixing those drinks girl they’re hitting me twice as strong,” “every George Strait song sounds better when you’re singing along,” “the country air’s sweeter with your perfume,” etc.

As cliché as some of this may sound, what really helps to set this lyric apart is that where so many other songs like this keep things very vague, English opts to instead get very specific; singing of Bud Light rather than just saying beer and referring to her 701’s rather than just saying blue jeans.

Riding on the success of his last two singles “Goodnight Marie” and “Willie Nelson T-Shirt,” Austin English has made a tremendous decision to take “In The Mix” to mainstream country radio. With its up-tempo, summery vibe and great lyrics that carry a connectibility factor with them, this song has a great chance of achieving Top 40 success and opening the next chapter of an already storied career.
