As CCB Nashville continues its very ambitious #newmusicfriday initiative of putting out a brand-new song every week from one of the artists on their talented roster, Jamey D is continuously carving out his niche and has risen to become the label’s breakout star.

“Workin’ My Way Back Home” was the first introduction to Jamey D as an artist and songwriter earlier this year, while “Boomtown” followed and hit on the controversial subject of cities growing way too fast and losing their grip on who they are because of it.

However, it was with his last single “New York Don’t Need You,” that Jamey D really elevated his game. The softer pace of the song allowed his vocals to carry the necessary punch of emotion as he connected the “missing you” lyrics with the heart of the listener.

His newest release, “Good Girl,” continues to tap into a softer, albeit mid-tempo pace and reveal the strong signatures that are defining who Jamey D is; raw, honest vocals, very strong lyrics, great storytelling, and a stark know-how of all the right ways to pull it all together to truly captivate the listener.

The story he weaves takes us straight into a night out on the town, in his case as an artist performing at a show and places the focus on a beautiful woman who is talking to him in a flirtatious way.

However, as beautiful and confident as this woman is, Jamey D is quick to stop her advances, honoring the “good girl” that he has waiting for him back at home, while very skillfully crafting his lyrics in such a way that he continues to send out good guy vibes as he lets the woman in front of him down easy; complementing her by singing lines such as “There ain’t no denying that you’re looking so fine,” and later by admitting to her that “in the days of my youth I woulda begged you to stay.”

I personally love the line about who he was in his youth as I think it is the centerpiece to entire idea of this song. In many ways that one line really is a showcase of how much the girl who’s waiting for him at home has helped him grow and mature into the person that he is today.

Later in the song, Jamey hits another line out of the park that fully displays the honesty that he carries within when he sings directly to the woman flirting with him, “Would you rather know the truth or have another man lie to you?,” signaling that he himself isn’t about to lie to her and cause her any hurt while coincidentally also not hurting himself and/or his girl at home by making a big mistake in a fleeting moment by not being the man he promised to be.

Though he’s played this song at several of the Cash Creek Club Live shows over the past few months, the recorded version holds that very something special to it and acts as a clear piece of the blueprint that perfectly shows Jamey D getting stronger and stronger with each song he releases, already strongly heightening the anticipation for next month’s new release from him.
