When he released “Runnin’ Downhill” last month - his first single in three years - Tyler Dial seemingly became an overnight sensation. The song has already surpassed 5 million global streams and catapulted his star power to a level that has created an incredible buzz across the music industry.

Wasting no time, Dial is riding that huge wave of momentum by now releasing “Way Back When,” a tempo-driven song with a great summery vibe that will have you rolling down your windows and singing along, but most importantly, it can certainly challenge the mark achieved by “Runnin’ Downhill” and quite possibly go even bigger!

Nostalgic songs just work! There’s no two ways about it; especially when the song’s about looking back on a young love type of romance. When that scenario is presented correctly through the lyrics it easily strikes the heart of the listener and immediately transports them back to their own first love and has them fondly remembering it over the course of 3-minutes.

Tyler Dial hits strong on all those notes.

The song, penned by Dial, Adam James, and Logan Wall, taps into that innocence that comes with young love, but it does it in such a specific way that he expertly paints a vivid picture through the lyrics by singing of her wearing Red Line Levi’s, playing Coldplay’s “Green Eyes,” etc.

However, because the story is actually being told from the looking back perspective of today, Dial leans on what situations always hit him and get him reminiscing to “way back when," citing something as simple as the radio playing a song or the sight of a soft top jeep; something he also asks in the second verse, if it takes her back when she sees one.

Lamenting on this nostalgic moment, he admits that he hasn’t felt that same way since then and that it almost feels like it was yesterday, singing in the bridge, “wish time never would have changed us.”

But by never laying out the specific reasons that they split, or whether they still even talk today, Tyler Dial’s vagueness in that regard perfectly allows the listener to place their own story into the song, which gives it that strong connection factor to the audience.

Combine that with the catchy, modern sound of the song, which is clearly built for today’s country radio, and it’s a safe bet that Tyler Dial’s buzz is about to get deafening.
