Southern redneck-inspired songstress Payton Howie has released her latest single, “Jail and Jesus”.  As the name implies and as her personality and music have portrayed from the beginning, this song is a brutally honest narration of life and family.

“’Jail and Jesus’ is by far one of the most personal songs I’ve ever released and definitely one of the tracks I’m most proud of”, Payton said.  “Some of the greatest country songs of all time have a ‘storytelling’ aspect that grips you and that’s something I wanted to incorporate”.

Co-written by Payton along with Michael Austin and Erik Halbig, the tune tells the tale of walking the line between good and bad, between virtue and sin, and how life’s experiences and our reactions to those experiences shape who we are as people.

One thing I’ve learned, my prayers are still heard

I hold on to the one that redeems us

I walk the line but I stray time to time

Living between jail and Jesus

“Jail and Jesus” follows the previous single, “Country Before Me”, which was included on her debut EP ‘Youngblood’.  The record garnered the attention of the likes of The Boot, CMT, and more, and also jaunted Payton on her 16 city Youngblood Tour, which kicked off in mid-March.

Fans can catch Payton at one of the dozens of shows she will be playing throughout the spring and summer, including headlining gigs as well as major fairs and festivals across the country.
