While Anne Wilson may fall into the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) realm, she has absolutely made a big splash amongst the country music community as well.

Hitting #1 on the Billboard Christian Charts straight out of the gate with “My Jesus” immediately raised an ear toward her music, but it’s with “Sunday Sermons” that she was able to really find the perfect balance between her natural CCM style and the current pop country blended sound.

She now continues to uncover more of that crossover appeal with her newest release, “God Thing.”

The mid-tempo, pop country laden groove in the melody instantly grabs hold of you with its slightly swampy feel and gets your hips swaying along side to side as Wilson wraps her assured vocal around the powerful list like lyric in the opening verse and sets the entire tone of the song as she sings us through all the different unexplainable, everyday things that she has witnessed: a bad man change his ways, a women get healed on her dying day, finding money in her pocket just in time to pay the bills, etc.

All of this is, though, is skillfully designed to push you into the chorus where she completely challenges us to recognize exactly why these things are happening in our lives:

Don't say it ain't a God thing

Don't say it ain't a miracle

It's so obvious when He does His stuff

It's not anyone else but Him

When you see a life change

It's something supernatural

Anytime a sinner becomes a saint

Yeah, it's a God thing

The second verse tackles the tougher subject of faith, and more so keeping your faith strong when things don’t seem to be working out the way you planned, before she later brings the idea of it all being a “God Thing” full circle during the bridge where the praise and worship lifts up the simple facts that He’s been showing up all her life, giving her new mercies every morning, and leaving her seeing too many every day miracles that she can’t do anything other than thank Him for them.

Anne Wilson has already begun to solidify herself as a force amongst the current music scene, and “God Thing” is such a smart, powerful release. The song carries a strong message that revolves around the truth that everything in our life points back to God and all He’s done to deliver us through every situation and moment that we didn’t think we’d get through while transforming us in His light.
