Whenever the Texas Red Dirt scene catches onto an artist/songwriter, it usually takes the rest of the country music world a minute to catch up.

That’s the case with Drew Cooper.

Although he’s a native of Tucson, AZ, the Texas music scene has embraced Copper with open arms and welcomed him into the fold on the back of his raw, honest songwriting and incredible live performances.

With his brand-new double album This Life releasing in two-parts starting this spring (2022), Cooper offers us our first taste of what to expect from ‘part 1’ with “Madeline,” an up-tempo, boot stomper that is sure to ignite the Friday night dancehalls.

He blasts us with a classic rock influence through big guitar riffs, while lyrically weaving us through a lusting love story about continuously pining after a girl (Madeline) who always leaves him broken hearted no matter how close she pulls him in and makes him believe it will be real this time.

There are moments throughout the song where he clearly signifies that he knows better than to fall for her again and again, whether it’s when his mama warns him about her kind or in the chorus when he sings of knowing that come tomorrow, he’ll be begging her not to leave.

Though this familiar theme to country music is very solidly written in the lyrics, “Madeline” stands out mostly as a brilliant all-around showcase of who Cooper is as an artist and songwriter.

Wrapped within a quick, 3-minute package, Drew Cooper introduces himself to new listeners by including pieces of all the different signatures that have come to define him – a rough around the edges gravel hit from his baritone vocals, very solid lyrics, and great guitars with riffs that hold you into the melody while prominent use of fiddle bridges the gap perfectly between his country influenced side and rock kissed edge.
