Santo, TX native Grant Gilbert moved to Nashville in 2021 after being taken under the wing of Josh Abbott and William Clarke Green while playing shows around his college town of Lubbock, TX.  Since then, the singer-songwriter is quickly making a name for himself as one of the more promising under-the-radar singers new to Music City.

His latest release, “She Goes Home (the dirty breakup song)”, is a crafty tune about a breakup and how different people handle it in varying ways, from going out to staying home and everything in between.

The ability to tell a story in a song is one of the more historically prominent elements of country music dating back decades, but is also something that has been absent in a lot of the more modern releases.  Written by Gilbert along with Joybeth Taylor and Rivers Rutherford, “She Goes Home” paints a picture with beautifully constructed lyrics that put the listener right in the middle of the couple’s argument from the first words of the tune.

He says something she don’t like

She gets those daggers in her eyes

He said something she knows cut him deep

He turns his back and walks away

She throws a glass he hears it break

Screams a couple words be on repeat

This is the reality of breakups for a lot of people, and before the mourning and the bitterness comes the raw emotion of the turmoil in the heat of the moment.  The songwriting perfectly illustrates the passion behind what we say and what we do when we are at our most emotionally vulnerable state, and the feelings we experience dictate how we react.  Grant’s vocals are spot on and the song offers a crooning melody but is also a bit of a catchy number that will stick with the listener.

Amidst the continued release of new music, Gilbert has been invited to join Josh Abbott and Kolby Cooper on the road this spring.  Stay tuned to his website for more news and tour dates.
