Drew Green has landed cuts as a songwriter with major acts such as Florida-Georgia Line, while also earning a credit on Conner Smith’s viral sensation, “I Hate Alabama.” But as an artist, his own releases - “She Got That,” “Little More Be Alright,” and “Hooch” - have all amassed streaming numbers that would make any newcomer envious.

With the tease of new music still to come since after the release of his Dirt Boy Vol 2. EP in late 2021, Green now gives us “Good Ol’ Man.”

The song, co-written by Green, Josh Miller, Lee Starr, and Mark Trussell, slides into more of a softer pace than we’ve heard from Green on his past few releases, while skillfully still allowing him to retain his modern groove heavy style within that pace.

However, it’s the lyrics that are in the spotlight on this song and become its major highlight.

In list like fashion, Green pulls us through the opening verse by revealing all the different things that he’s working on changing about himself to become better at life now that he has a child: trying to clean up his cussing, going to more church on Sunday, cutting back on his Copenhagen habit, etc.

He punches home the very truthful reason for needing to make these necessary changes on the final two lines of the verse before hitting the chorus, “And I'ma need to be a little better, if he’s gonna wanna be like me.”

Green then somewhat turns the attention away from himself and all the changes that he needs to make as we get into the second verse, to instead focus on all that he needs to teach his little man: how to swim, fish, drive a stick shift car, etc.

With an already very strong lyric that’s completely full of transparent honesty and wraps around the raw emotion of Green’s vocal delivery, he pushes the song to the height that makes it a hit when he sings in the bridge:

Making a man out of him

Is making a man out of me.”

Drew Green has earned massive amounts of attention since bursting onto the scene. But “Good Ol’ Man” speaks directly to the hearts of many of the listeners and will be the catalyst to jumpstarting his next chapter as he takes a giant leap ahead on his career path, while expertly giving us just the right glimpse to still be left wanting more of what’s promised to be coming from him this year!
