LILY GRACE

Undiscovered Nashville’s “Tunes + Tequila”

Tuesday October 3, 2023

@ The Clubhouse at Sonny’s in Nashville, TN

(Review Written By: Jeffrey Kurtis)

After having been moved by the venue from their Thursday night timeslot to Saturday nights over the summer, Undiscovered Nashville experienced a dynamic shift in their crowd’s overall vibe, going from a listening room feel to a much rowdier atmosphere.

While both nights had something unique to offer, their move to Tuesday’s a little over a month ago saw a return to that listening room feel as fellow musicians, songwriters, friends, and artists all gathered into the cozy space to hear the best of the best emerging talent that Tony Wolfe continually brings to his stage.

With their time at the Clubhouse at Sonny’s now drawing to a close, and the search for a new venue on the near horizon, Wolfe and his Undiscovered Nashville “Tunes + Tequila” are leaving their mark with a blast of incredible talent spread throughout each of their final lineups, which on this night included Australian import Lily Grace.

So, I moved to Nashville in February, and it has been most amazing to be here and surrounded by so many talented people. Now, I'm from far away in Australia so it was a long drive for me to get here tonight," Lily smiled with a chuckle as she immediately showered the crowd with her cheeky personality before captivating them when she opened the final round of the night with her recent single "Bet On Us," injecting her pop infused modern country aura into the room as she placed her crisp vocal atop the floaty, feel good rhythm, twisting through the throw caution to the wind/shrug of her shoulders lyric that enthusiastically saw her rolling the dice on her and crush making it despite the naysayers saying that they never will.

"I recently released this song only like a week ago and it just hit 100K streams today," Lily excitedly shared as her producer Caleb Flanders joined on guitar to punch into her newest single "Maybe So," bouncing into the irresistible melody that perfectly accompanied the lyric as she placed an addictive optimism in her voice, singing of how an unexpected encounter has now turned into a budding crush that has her feeling butterflies.

"This next song is really about me trying to do my best and keeping my head down because it's sometimes easier to just write songs and bury yourself in the work than to think about all that you're missing back home," transparently shared Lily as the softer pace of "I Don't Wanna Cry On My Birthday" silenced the crowd to a hush as she opened her diary with a pure vulnerability that allowed her homesick lyrics to radiate the venue and visibly connect heart to heart with the roomful of dreamers in a picturesque moment that let everyone know that they're all in this together as one extended family through the inevitable ups and downs of chasing after this music dream.

Strumming into "Follow My Road," she unfolded her road map on the autobiographical clap-along bop as everyone shoulder danced in perfect timing with the insatiable, up-tempo melody as she herself bounced in her seat, weaving through her hopeful trail from Australia to Nashville while closing her part of the night with a boldly stamped exclamation point that put everyone on high alert that country music's next big thing is here and knocking on the proverbial door.
