CHLOE COLLINS

@ The Well Coffee House in Nashville, TN

In the shadow of Lipscomb University, a crowd gathered inside the Well Coffee House for a Thursday night showcase of Bear House Writer Management’s amazingly talented lineup of young Belmont student/songwriters.

I always love to be a part of a Nashville crowd at a songwriter’s round like this. When the writer is performing you can hear a pin drop as the audience goes silent and leans in to listen intently to every single word and note, but then erupts with supportive cheers as the song ends.

Andrew Grooms, Kassidy Knight, and Katie Power, each incredible in their own unique ways, were joined by Chloe Collins, a songwriter who is well on her way as her resume already includes several television placements and top 40 charting songs.

“I got some really exciting news recently,” stated Collins enthusiastically after introducing herself to the crowd. “Have y’all heard of the show Heartland on Netflix? It’s like Gilmore Girls with horses...but they featured one of my songs on an episode,” she finished with a smile on her face as she then opened her portion of the writer’s round with “Shouldn’t, Couldn’t, Wouldn’t,” and immediately showcased her unique, vibey style and vocals while pulling the audience into her aura.

“I’ve been writing songs since I was 8 years old and it was always a dream to move to Nashville,” Collins began as she then praised her parents for not only supporting her dream, but also moving to town to be here with her and continue to show their support of it. “But when I was packing to move here, I got really nervous because everyone here is so good here and I didn’t know if, or where I’d belong. The day before we moved, I got a call that one of my songs was going to be featured on the 100th episode of the television show Nashville and that changed everything,” she finished as she delivered the incredible, heart-tugging song “Fragile.”

As the writer’s round circled back to Collins for her third and final song of the night she exclaimed, “I always come here to study so it’s cool to play a show here!” before she delivered her upcoming single “That’s On You,” an ultra-catchy song with very memorable lyrics that is going to no doubt attack the charts in the same way that her current smash “Somebody Else’s” is right now! The sky is truly the limit with this song, and we can’t wait to see the impact it makes for her once it drops on April 19, 2022.

When it comes to music you’ll hear during young writer’s rounds, you usually never really know what you’re going to get, but this round delivered on many different, exciting levels.

The obvious standout was always going to be Chloe Collins who has already knocked down so my doors and started to forge her path in buzzworthy ways.

However,  Andrew Grooms delivered heartfelt songs that leaned into a crisp, rock and blues influence ala what you’d hear from his band project Southport.

Katie Power opened her life stories to the audience through more of a folk driven feel during songs such as “Explanation” and “More.”

The unexpected talent came from Kassidy Knight, who I’ll deem right here as the next young songwriter to watch. She leaned on a blend of pure emotion and modern country vibes to deliver the very impressive songwriting gems such as “Unattainable” and “Lie to Me.”

The chill vibe that radiated throughout the coffee house not only accented the outstanding performances on stage, but it also took me back to my earliest years of living in town and having morning music meetings at places just like this as we watched new talent with wide-eyed grins on our faces and leaned on the hope that anything was possible; a notion that we all too often forget until young talents like these four songwriters come along to remind us!
