1. Tell us a little bit about your latest single “Better By The Beer.”

It’s actually about my hometown bar “Chantilly Room”. When I used to play there every Wednesday, there was a patron who’d always say “I’m gettin better by the beer, buddy!”. I knew it was too good to pass up!

2. Why did you feel that this was the best song to represent your current release 7?

I needed a honk-tonk release to show how flexible I am in music. “Gravity & You” is me to a T but this one makes you dance, and drink!!

3. On the subject of 7, for those who have only heard “Better By The Beer,” what does the whole album give them that they don’t necessarily hear from just that song?

“7” is a story of the growth of “Jake Bush” - Not only as an artist but as a man. From the lovey story on “Gravity & You” to “If These Walls Could Talk” (a song about personal loss) … I think it explains my story really well.

4. Other than “Better By The Beer,” which song from 7would you suggest someone listen to so they can get an overall feel for who Jake Bush is as an all-around artist?

“If These Walls Could Talk” would have to be my choice. It’s single handedly the most personal song I’ve ever released.

5. If forced to choose, which song from is your personal favorite and why?

“If You Ever Get Lonely” - I wrote it alone in my kitchen at 4AM, and it just gravitates with me. A ton of people have that one person that got away and wish they’d come back. Being on stage makes it a little easier for them to find you.

6. This month (May 2021) you’re celebrating the 5-year anniversary of your first single release “Hurricane.” Looking back on it now, tell us about the ride since then. Is it what you ever expected?

Wow, 5 years! My entire sound and life has changed since then. I’ve gotten to meet some of my heroes, and they’ve grown to become my friends. I’ve been able to play music all over the US. I never would’ve expected that this one song would have led to where I am now. Blessed is an understatement.

7. You are a road warrior – playing over 250 shows a year. How did you deal with last year and the pandemic, and how important is it now for you to have the full schedule that you do going into this year’s summer season?

Initially I did Facebook Live videos for a few weeks, but as soon as I could get out to play live shows, I did. Now that live music is coming back in full swing, all the work we’ve put in this last year will be worth it.

8. For those folks coming out to see you play live for the first time, what can they expect from your shows that just spinning your albums doesn’t give them?

I’d like to think we’re high energy and our sound is a little different live. It’s more intimate and special. The live sound pushes out something different that the record can’t capture.

9. We couldn’t let this question and answer session pass by without thanking you for your service in our US Army. Thank you so much! How did your time in the Army prepare you the most for navigating the music industry, especially in a competitive market like Texas?

It instilled discipline in me. I always respected authority growing up, but the military created a leader in me and taught me to work as a team. The music business isn’t always easy but totally worth it.

10. What is the best piece of advice that you can offer an aspiring songwriter/artist just trying to break into the music business?

Don’t take no for an answer. Write what and how you want and show the world. It is always for everyone. Sometimes, the songs you write aren’t for the world, they’re just for you and that’s alright.
